AVDAR Toddler Tower in natural wood with two steps and safety rails

Learning Tower vs Step Stool

Compare · Kitchen

A stool got our son to the counter. It did not keep him there. I spent the stirring holding the back of his shirt.

That is the whole difference, if you have lived it. You want them in the real kitchen, not in a toy one in the corner. They want to see, to pour, to be the person next to you. A step raises their feet and leaves their body in the room. They lean. You become the missing side. A learning tower is what we built after we got tired of being that side. He stands inside it, a rail around the top, instead of balancing while one of us acts as a piece of furniture.

They still lean
The tower
For the child who wants to be in the cooking and is not steady yet. 1.5 to 3 years. You are there with them.
They can stand still
A stool
The bathroom sink. A light switch. A shelf they already reach on their toes. Easier to move. Wrong tool if the whole wish is to lean into the bowl.

What "inside" changes, on an ordinary Tuesday

The Toddler Tower is a trapezoid. The wide part is on the floor, which is the part that should be wide when a small person shifts their weight. Two openings in the sides lighten it and give them something to hold while they climb in. It is not a cage and it is not a chair. It is a place to stand at the height of the work.

There are three heights, and this is the part I wish someone had told me as a buyer. An 18-month-old and a three-year-old do not meet your counter on the same step. While they are smaller, the platform sits higher, so the rail is at the chest. As they grow, you lower the platform. You do not buy a second tower because they grew 4 cm. The limit is 70 kg. The age we give is 1.5 to 3. After that, a lot of children are steady enough that a stool, or a chair they drag over themselves, has caught up. If they are only using it out of habit, let it go.

Birch plywood. Water-based paint. Seven colours, including the natural wood, so it can look like your kitchen and not like a primary-coloured announcement. Tested to EN71, ASTM and CPSIA. The reports are on the product page if you want them. I would still read the rail with your eyes, not only the PDF.

How I use it, and how I hope you will

  • ✓
Against the counter firstPush it in before they climb. Do not slide it across the floor with a child standing in it. The wide base helps. It does not make a moving tower a good idea.
  • ✓
One job, not the kitchenWashing the vegetables. Tearing the bread. Stirring what you already put in the bowl. The knives stay with you. Off the hob. Tall enough to join is not old enough for everything on the counter.
  • ✓
You stayA child in the tower is a child you are cooking with. If you leave the room, the interesting things are still the hob, the knives, and the edge. The rail does not cancel you.

One tower is one child. If two need to stand side by side, that is the Buddy Toddler Tower, built for two. A second child perched on the step behind the first is not sharing. It is how someone falls.

What I would tell a friend

Is it safer than the stool I already own?

For a toddler who leans, yes. They are inside a rail instead of on an open step, and you can stop holding the shirt. It is not safer than your attention. Push it to the counter. Stay.

Will they still want it next year?

That is what the three heights are for. Lower the platform as they grow, so the rail stays at the chest instead of ending up at the waist, which is when they start leaning over it. Around three, watch whether they still need it.

Bathroom too?

Once they are steady, the height helps at the sink. I still would not leave a leaning toddler on an open stool there. If the job is "be next to me while I cook," it is the tower. If the job is "I can reach my cup and I do not wobble," a stool is kinder, because you can move it.
